Robert E. Kennedy

Robert (Bob) Kennedy is a Professor of Corporate Strategy and International Business at the Michigan Business School where he teaches an elective course, Business Strategies in Emerging Markets. He also serves as Associate Director of the William Davidson Institute, a non-profit, research and educational institute dedicated to creating and disseminating expertise on business and policy issues in emerging economies. Kennedy's research focuses on the opportunities and challenges facing businesses in developing countries and has been widely published in leading economics and strategy journals.

Kennedy is a well known speaker and educator. He has authored more than 70 articles, chapters, notes, case studies, and computer exercises on emerging market issues. In 2003, his teaching materials were used at every one of Business Week's top 25 U.S. business schools.

 

Abstract of the speech:

FDI policies in transition economies are generally aimed at attracting manufacturing investment and generating exports. This presentation will make the case that policies aimed at attracting export-oriented services sector investments can be more effective than manufacturing-focused policies - as measured by jobs created and export earnings generated per concession dollar.
